5th July is National Day of the Isle of Man, also known as Tynwald Day. On this day, the island's ruling authorities proclaim the laws on Tynwald Hill. Before this, a wreath is laid at the National War Memorial. At eleven a.m. a service is held at the Chapel of St John the Baptist and then there is a procession to Tynwald Hill along a path strewn with rushes and lined with flag poles which fly the red national flag and the blue parliamentary flag of the Isle of Man.

The week of Tynwald Day is commemorated ar Manx National Week, with concerts, firework displays and a traditional country fair.

Tynwald Hill itself is about 12 feet high and made of 4 circular platforms in a sort of "cone" arrangement, topped by a flagpole.
